Signs That You Need Basement Waterproofing
When it rains, the only things you should be thinking of are getting your laundry from the clothesline and closing your windows. You shouldn't be worried about your flooding in your basement as well.
Basement flooding can cause serious water damage to your home. If not treated as early as possible, it will affect your house's structural integrity, family's health, and may also cost you a lot of money to fix in the long run. You can avoid these problems by calling basement waterproofing professionals when you notice these signs: You Must Be Getting Mold Molds usually only grow in damp and dark places. If you've been to your basement recently and it smells like a locker room, that's absolutely bad news. If you get a whiff of a musty scent whenever you go to your basement, it might mean that water has been present for some time already. This smell may also be an indication of mold growth. I never thought about that in some cases you can smell the water damage before you see it. We recently purchased a new home, and aren't sure if the basement is waterproofed of not. Is there a way to check that out, and have it done if it isn't?

My wife thinks our basement will be fine because we aren't near any natural water reserves. I tried telling her that pipes could burst and get into our basement. Maybe if I mention what you said about mold can grow around our basement if there is a little bit of moisture.

Making your research before hiring a basement waterproofing professional is a good first step. Verify that the contractor has the necessary credentials in your location for their line of work. You should also check at their previous client evaluations on sites like Angie's List. You can shorten your list by looking for contractors who have proven to be reliable in the past. Additionally, calling organizations such as the Better Business Bureau can assist you in determining whether the contractors have received any complaints.

If your basement is damp, has water stains, or is musty smelling, then it is likely that you need to waterproof it. Other signs that you may need to waterproof your basement include peeling paint, cracks in the walls or floors, and doors or windows that stick. If you have any of these signs, it is best to consult with a professional to see if waterproofing your basement is the best solution.

It got me when you said that the growth of mold can happen fast when neglected. With that in mind, I have to ensure that we hire a waterproofing company to get my house checked and have issues addressed. The colder seasons are coming and I have to be sure that we can prevent issues that can cause us health issues aside from the damage they can cause.
